The European HPC education ecosystem

EUMaster4HPC is a partnership of European universities, research centres, supercomputing centres and industrial partners leading educational activities, supported by EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, with the mission to co-design the first pan-European education environment in High Performance Computing (HPC) and to define effective learning outcomes for Master’s Degree programmes in HPC ensuring education quality aligned with international standards and industry needs.

Starting from the academic year 2025/26, Politecnico di Milano will no longer offer double degrees within EUMaster4HPC. However, through this partnership, we continue offering our students a unique opportunity to join the European HPC education ecosystem that we are building with the other EUMaster4HPC partners.

By leveraging the EUMaster4HPC network of academic, industrial, and supercomputing partners, selected students can benefit from international exposure, workshops, summer schools, internships, and opportunities to carry on their master’s thesis abroad at one of our partner universities or supercomputing centres, ensuring a highly enriched educational journey.

If you aim at studying at Politecnico di Milano, with EUMaster4HPC you can have a pan-European learning experience including:

  • Training activities in Europe: a thematic Summer School, international HPC challenges and workshops organised at partner universities or research institutes. This commitment can be recognised into your Polimi study plan and transcript of records with 5 credits.
  • Access to teaching resources, learning material and online modules (MOOCs) developed by EUMaster4HPC partners to further enhance your preparation.
  • Attending the annual EuroHPC Summit and getting in contact with relevant stakeholders (research and industry representatives, scientific and industrial users, and policymakers)
  • Mobility periods as free mover for thesis abroad / visiting student at another university in Europe
  • Internship for thesis (in a company, research centre or supercomputing centre)
  • Additionally: if you are also selected for an Erasmus+ mobility for exams, you may have the opportunity to spend a semester at one of the partner universities. Note: this additional option is independent of the EUMaster4HPC application; you must also apply and be nominated through the Erasmus+ exchange calls.

Please note these international learning activities do not lead to a double degree with Politecnico di Milano.

Applications

If you are interested in studying HPC Engineering at Politecnico di Milano and willing to enrich your education path with EUMaster4HPC, you should submit two distinct applications:

  • to EUMaster4HPC through the EUMaster4HPC portal, selecting Politecnico di Milano as preferred university. Note: Polimi cannot be put in any double-degree combination.
  • to Politecnico di Milano for the Laurea Magistrale in HPC Engineering (following the local application deadlines and procedures as set by Polimi)

Note: You can apply even if you haven’t completed your bachelor studies yet. You are expected to graduate from the bachelor by Autumn 2025 to be able to enrol for the master degree course in the first semester of academic year 2025/26.

If you need any support or more information on this European experience and to coordinate for admission, please get in contact with the programme manager Federico Schiepatti: federico.schiepatti@polimi.it
