HPC Education Ecosystem

The European HPC education ecosystem

EUMaster4HPC is a partnership of European universities, research centres, supercomputing centres and industrial partners leading educational activities, supported by EuroHPC Joint Undertaking, with the mission to co-design the first pan-European education environment in HPC and define effective learning outcomes, ensuring education quality aligned with international standards and industry needs.
By leveraging the EUMaster4HPC network of academic, industrial, and supercomputing partners, selected students can benefit from international exposure, workshops, summer schools, internships, and opportunities to carry on their master’s thesis abroad a partner universities or supercomputing centres, ensuring a highly enriched educational journey.
Students in the EUMaster4HPC initiative will be equipped with a robust blend of theoretical foundations and practical skills, enabling them to tackle real-world challenges in computational science, data-intensive applications, and emerging technologies. The programme not only fosters technical excellence but also cultivates soft skills such as teamwork, communication, and cross-cultural collaboration, essential for navigating the multidisciplinary and international landscape of HPC-driven innovation.
What do we offer?
If you aim at studying at Politecnico di Milano with EUMaster4HPC you will have a pan-European learning experience including:
- Training activities in Europe: a thematic Summer School, international HPC challenges and workshops organised at partner universities or research institutes. This commitment can be recognised into your Polimi study plan and transcript of records with 5 credits
- Attending the annual EuroHPC Summit as HPC ambassadors, where you can get in contact with relevant international stakeholders (research and industry representatives, supercomputing centres, scientific and industrial users, and policymakers)
- Access to teaching resources, learning material and online modules (MOOCs) developed by EUMaster4HPC partners to further enhance your preparation
- Mobility periods as free mover for thesis abroad / visiting student at another university in Europe
- Internship positions for thesis (in a company, research centre or supercomputing centre) already validated by faculty
- Additionally: if you are also selected for an Erasmus+ mobility for exams, you may have the opportunity to spend a semester at one of the partner universities. Note: this additional option is independent of the EUMaster4HPC application; you must also apply and be nominated through the Erasmus+ exchange calls that are published by Politecnico di Milano.
Please note these international learning activities do not lead to a double degree with Politecnico di Milano.
Starting from the academic year 2025/26, Politecnico di Milano will no longer offer double degrees within EUMaster4HPC. However, through this partnership, we continue offering our students a unique opportunity to join the European HPC education ecosystem that we are building with the other EUMaster4HPC partners.
If you need any support or more information on this European experience or to express you interest in applying, please get in contact with the programme manager Federico Schiepatti: federico.schiepatti@polimi.it
